Birth of Psychedelia

January 15th 2021  Dear Blog, it’s been a while. How are you? Oh, you're upset I haven’t done this in a while? Better late than never though, right? The psychedelic culture is associated to the 60s, for good reason, it was really just a decade of it being used and seen everywhere. I am learning about the Summer of Love and how there is more to the psychedelic culture than just the music and shirts. It was about activism and, well, the drugs of course. The 50s was mostly recovery from WW2 and so the 60s was the love of their liberation and to spread the peace. Though WW2 was way over, there was the Vietnam war and the cold war with the Soviet Union that was going on and it makes sense that these people just wanted to spend their time getting high and spread love. Honestly though, what better way to do it than through music, right? It speaks to all people, you don’t really need to be proficient in the language but you can always appreciate the good music.  The 60s really had a guy ad

Meaning of Pop Culture and Graphic Design

January 3rd 2021 I wrote my intro some time ago, but that is as far as I’ve gotten with my essay. So, today I want to at least get my whole intro and explanations done... Everything that comes before the body content. Seems kind of dumb that I am trying to find a proper way to define popular culture. My teachers used to always say "answer exams, essays, questions, etc. as if the person reading is totally dumb" but I think even people with below average IQ still know what popular culture is. But okay, lets do this. Suddenly looking for definitions of pop culture does not seem so dumb anymore. Pop culture is more than just pop culture as we know it. When anyone says pop culture, they only think of pop culture now (music, movies, trends, etc) and maybe, for anyone art inclined, pop art, specifically Andy Warhol, of course but I have just found out pop culture is more than just that. Folk culture is.. was?.. considered as pop culture. According to Raymond Williams, a Welsh Marxis

Essay Structure

December 11th 2020 By now, I had to work on an essay structure. But before I did anything, I had to figure out how to do an essay structure and so our best friend— Google— came in. I used this as a guide in how to make an essay structure even though I was still kind of lost on what exactly needed to go into it.   Putting that aside in the meantime, I decided to look into my content and/or topic. I stumbled upon many sources on graphic design and pop culture, one that stood out to me the most was Steven Heller's book Pop: How graphic design shapes popular culture. Although this was not really what I needed as I was going into more of corporate culture, I found this book really interesting and spent a good amount of time going through it. I thought of incorporating pop culture into my essay as well and as far as I managed to get with that in terms of my essay structure is shown below. After hours of searching, I realised I could not seem to find what I needed for my corporate culture
